Benjamin Cobb, Gabe Feenan, and Sarah Gilbert – Virtual Studio Tour and Talk with the Museum of Glass Hot Shop Team

Sandra Ainsley Gallery

On February 13, 2020 we visited the Museum of Glass in Tacoma, WA and met the Hot Shop Team.

Located in Tacoma, Washington, Museum of Glass is one of the premier contemporary art museum dedicated to glass and glassmaking.  International and emerging artist from around the world take part in residencies at the Museum and work closely with the Museum incredible hot shop team

Cobb’s work explores the relationship between nature and human biology. With forms as diverse as river stones, to internal organs, new combinations are crafted by bringing together traditional and abstract patterns with elemental forms.

Feenan’s elegant and refined pieces evoke strength and balance with their stacked geometric shapes. His latest body of work explores the optical qualities of glass through technically challenging compositions.

Gilbert’s uses glass primarily, and her focus in cameo engraving as a way of creating imagery pulls from a long history dating back to Roman times.  Her constructed narratives begin with layers of glass color and as she carves, the time consuming process of grinding away the surface enables her mind to reflect on her questions as her images emerge.
